Despite modern dental advancements, tooth loss is still a very real problem for many Americans, with up to 35 million adults missing all of their teeth. Full-mouth dental implants, called Max Implants in our office, are a more permanent solution to tooth loss than traditional tooth-replacement options such as dentures. The implant procedure for full-mouth implants is often quicker and easier than traditional implants, as well. But how long do Max Implants last?
What are All-on-4® Implants?
The full-mouth implant procedure also known as the All-on-4® is named for its number of implants, as this procedure can be performed with as few as four implants per jaw. Using traditional methods, a mouth full of implants would require 8-10 implants per jaw, resulting in a much greater expense. But with the full-mouth treatment solution, only four implants are required.
Revolutionary dental implant technology allows the rear implants to be angled at a 30-45 degree inclination, reducing the need for bone grafting. These angled implants allow patients who have suffered bone loss to be eligible for the full mouth implant procedure, avoiding the long and costly process of bone grafting.
How Long Do Full-Mouth Implants Last?
Our Max Implants are a great long-term solution for tooth loss, and can last up to 20 years or longer with proper care. The better care you take of your implants, the longer they should last. The implants consist of screws within the jawbone, as well as prosthetic bridges, which are held in place by the screws. The screws within the jawbone are meant to last over 10 years with proper care and oral hygiene. The bridges that rest on top of the implants are subject to daily wear and tear through biting and chewing, and likely will require replacement around the 7-10 year mark. The bridges are easily replaced without disrupting the implant screws inside your jaw.
What Can I Do To Help My Max Implants Last Longer?
First of all, start off on the right foot by choosing a skilled, highly qualified dental surgeon to complete your full-mouth implant procedure. After your procedure, maintain excellent oral hygiene at home by brushing and flossing regularly, limiting hard, sticky, or crunchy foods, and get regular cleanings at your dentist twice per year. Try to refrain from grinding your teeth or smoking, both of which could cause real harm to your implants and cause them to deteriorate much faster.
Considering All-on-4® Implants?
If you’re considering getting dental implants—particularly the Max Implants procedure—one of the most important things you can do is find a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who regularly performs the procedure with an impeccable reputation.
